World Headquarters is an actual, proper club, just like it says in the dictionary. This means it is not just based around so called big name DJs & fad type music nights. You can’t just pick up the phone, wave your chequebook & buy the kind of genuine subculture we have grown to represent. We’re into making a better city with unity & diversity & that’s what we’ve promoted in Newcastle since way back in the day.
Square dealing, friendly & multiracial, all nationalities are welcomed here. It’s Newcastle’s only independent, truly underground, word of mouth, musically driven club & is laid out over the lower 2 floors of Curtis Mayfield House. Upstairs, with its booming sound system & jaw dropping murals on the walls, is where it’s at for all the 360° bump ‘n’ hustle, block party action you’ll ever need.
Downstairs is a laid back lovely, leather couchy, versatile bar, live lounge & clubbing venue, with a pool table & the finest selection of whiskey’s you could imagine. Cute customers, elaborate ladies facilities, drinks promos at all times & the fact that this club really, really kicks, just add more to what set it apart & make it a top, fun night out.
Make no mistake, there is nowhere else even remotely like World Headquarters & if you are visiting Newcastle from outside the area, it’s quite simply a must see. With a switched on, hands in the air crowd & a totally unique take on music, WHQ is hands down, the friendliest & best club anywhere in the country.
Inspirational Weekends…
World Headquarters Nightclub is open every Friday & Saturday night from 11pm & is licensed for music & to serve alcohol until 5am. Midweek, check in Upcoming Events.
Weekends, which are the backbone of the club, we use just one Dj, playing solo for up to 12 hours every weekend, 52 weeks of the year. He also plays the big parties that we are so well known for, like our Valentines Day, Halloween & New Years Eve epics. Staying true to this Old Skool ideal, allows the club to develop around his phenomenal record collection in a constantly evolving,’secret little house party’ kinda way, that no other club these days even dare chance.
This groove ensures that nowhere else even comes close to WHQ’s intimacy, atmosphere, or reputation for dropping really bomb tunes. We totally kick everywhere else’s over-hyped, flabby asses, just simply by being half the price & twice as good!
The Spiritually Uplifting WHQ groove…
We are predominantly known for our Black music, but rare Funk, Hip Hop, Soul, RnB, True House, Reggae & top worldwide exclusive breaks are just part of the deal. We believe a good record is a good record from whatever colour, genre or era & we are always on the diverse, lush & spiritually uplifting tip, blending black music with all other styles. This groove makes friends & you can see it bringing the people together.
Crossing boundaries is our game & we feature loads of great vocals, outstanding conscious tunes & snippets, with none of the drug glorifying, misogynistic MTV twaddle, mainstream places peddle. It’s ‘melody central’ & at WHQ you get to hear music like Disco or Motown, in their proper context, alongside African music, Gospel & the cream of the best tunes recently released. Records are big in World Headquarters that aren’t big anywhere else & you’ll always hear a mix of really great tunes you don’t know, alongside fantastic tunes that you already love, but never thought you’d hear in a club. It’s jam packed full of surprises…
People fall in love with World Headquarters, it’s the one place where you can really enjoy your friends & find that dancing, making out & having fun are legitimate spiritual pastimes. It’s proof that racial harmony, being friendly & playing great records, really are enough.
