Here at World Headquarters, we have a long history of using a variety of animals in our publicity, so we thought it was about time we got us a mascot.

This is our little baby,  Ronnie. She is a Pharoah Hound puppy & will be featuring on many of our flyers from now on. Above is her hanging with the 13 other members of her litter, not long after she was born. Below is the first snap we took of her once we got her home, in bed, taken at the end of January.

As you can see at the moment she is still just a little baby, but she will grow along with the Club, over the next 15 or so years. Her ears (which as you can see in the photo above were all floppy…) have now started to stand up like some kind of crazy & astonishing bat… This apparently is  happening one ear at a time (as demonstrated in these photos below, taken in the first week of February).

First it was her right ear…

But her left stayed all floppy…

When we got home at last one night, from our weekends shenanigans, we were very pleased to see that her second ear was now playing ball & had just started to stand up. Her first one was now up like a proper batwing & for a moment we thought the second one might not go for it… But, check this snap taken at 6.30 on a Sunday morning!! (February 7th),  hilarious!

In this section we will regularly update photos & little films of her & show all the flyers she is going to be modeling on. Pop back here again, so that you can track her development & incredible rate of growth. She is going to be a very big hound indeed…

She is also such a complete cutie & we all just love her to bits x.

She started puppy school this week & was just so funny! We will def take some photos of her with all her doggie schoolchums next week & post them up.

You all know Spike, the black film director who shot to fame with his breakthrough movie ‘She’s Gotta Have It’.  (As with all Spike’s movies- haven’t seen it…? see it!)

He went on to make amazing & important inspirational films including ‘Malcolm X’ & the iconic ‘Do the Right Thing’. Well, in between all the amazing stuff he has done that you think you know about, is tucked away this little gem of a movie… It came out at the same time ‘Home Alone’ was released & it seemed to us at the time, that this movie was overlooked, in part because of that.

Home Alone had the story of the little white kid & his family, whereas Crooklyn is the story of a little black kid & her family.

Also the very name ‘Crooklyn’, at the time, we think, maybe made people, who take things on face value (ie. the majority of the cinema going public), think it was some some kinda gangster movie..?

Nothing could be further from the truth… If you get a chance to see it, take our advice & do.

You will be deeply, deeply, touched by it. It is a stunning piece of work & in our entire lives, it was the first time we had ever seen a black family represented properly in cinema.

This movie is a total masterpiece. This movie’s soundtrack is stupid good & features loads of the rarer tunes played at the Club on a weekend.

It’s a simple story set on an interracial block of brownstone New York houses, in Brooklyn in the 1970’s. The attention to detail, from the music, to the toys the kids play with, is far out & it totally captures the 70’s vibe in a way that is gimmick free & bang on the money.

All the characters are highly developed & totally believable & you won’t see a better & more emotive representation of family life anywhere else, presented by any other director, ever.

We won’t spoil it for you with the storyline, but we can say it’s just basically about kids, being kids & growing up in relative poverty, told from the perspective of a little girl in a large family of brothers.

The main thing that will blow your mind is the performances… All the actors are outstanding, but all the child actors are both hilarious, touching & quite simply out of this world.

To compare any of their performances to that McCauly Whatshisname in Home Alone, would be really ridiculous, as they are not even in the same ball park.

When you see it, you will get what we mean, you will know & you will also wonder just how come you had never heard of this truly amazing & life enriching, piece of art.

So, as we reckon few of you may have seen this movie already, we recommend it to you with all our heart.

Watch it & see for yourself. Stories really can be this beautiful & talented black actors can be ignored & at times their outstanding work lay unappreciated, as fashion favours of kids with scripted Hollywood twaddle, big budgets & blonde hair.

One thing the actors in this movie need not be, is unappreciated by you.

So, expand your mind & make sure you seek out & share in this touching, once in a lifetime experience.

We would like you to know that we have been meaning to write something about Crooklyn on our site for ages & these words have not been scribbled down at some time, moments after just after we have watched it. However writing them, has reminded us of how amazing this movie is & we are gonna go watch it again tomorrow!

If you stand at the bar, upstairs in WHQ & look up, to your extreme right…There is a photo of Spike Lee watching over the Club. We had this photo up at the Old Club (see History & Culture) & Spike has overseen proceedings in WHQ since day one.

In terms of our art, we stand on his shoulders & without his influence & this movie, goodness knows how we would have percieved the world when we were growing up, being involved in musical business & raising families.

The precocious Glaswegian who put himself on the map with the glossy-smart, hyper-real debut “Butter” LP in October last year is finally setting off for a long overdue UK tour: and his first stop is Inertia at World Headquarters on Thursday 22nd April.

This UK tour (codenamed ‘Pegasus Rising’) will see Hudson playing key shows at the old Factory Records HQ (FAC251) in Manchester as well as the Detonate indoor festival in Nottingham and kick starting May bank holiday by celebrating Dummy magazine’s birthday at the Macbeth, London.

His live show promises a joyride through genres and tempos - led by one of the new masters of the scene. Accompanying him on the road will be theatrical ringmaster and host Olivier Daysoul who contributed his vocal talents to the album including the anthemic ‘Joy Fantastic’ & the swingbeat infused ‘I Just Decided’, and Hepcat Radio originator miss Mamiko Motto.

Support on the night comes from Inertia residents SULLY and TIM SHAW.
